Manuka & Root Ginger Honey and Mango Chilli Meatballs

Savoury, sweet with fresh flavours make this simple starter just the dish to get the appetite moving. You could use this same recipe and thread the meatballs on kebab sticks and cook on the BBQ too. Serve plain, with natural yoghurt or your favourite dipping sauce.

  • 700g lean beef mince
  • 4 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon minced chilli
  • 2 tablespoons¬†manuka & root ginger honey
  • 1 cup chopped mango (fresh or canned)
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 cup plain flour, for rolling
  • 1 1/2 cup canola oil for deep frying


  1. Place all ingredients in food processor and mix until well blended. Mixture should be firm but mushy like sausage meat
  2. With a spoon, roll mix into balls and roll in flour. Set aside on plate
  3. Slowly heat up oil in a deep frying pan. Test heat with a sprinkle of flour – you want to hear the sizzle
  4. Place meatballs in frying pan, allowing each one some space
  5. Cook until golden brown and turn over. When both sides are cooked, remove from pan and place on serving dish. Continue cooking each batch until all meatballs are cooked
  6. Serve on their own, or with a dipping sauce of choice
